Blackmagick Sails
Up close and personal with some of my sails
Well I guess some of you will want to see what you might be getting for your dollar if you decide to buy, so the next page or two are close-ups of my A rig sails, as well as a little info on jib slots and the like. In this first pic as with others in this set please note that as the boat is not out on the water sailing there is no air pressure in these sails, so they will appear a little flatter than they might under sailing conditions, also note they have been set with only a very moderate footround, more foot round more fullness thoughout the sail. The set or fullness I have on the sails above I would consider right for moderate A rig conditions at say 10knots or over. Also note as suggested elsewhere, that the draft will move forward in the lightweight headsail once underway (suction effect) so the draft is built well aft with this in mind! Slight forestay sag  plays a part here too! And while on that note it is worth discussing the fact that as you set your sails up on the shore prior to sailing, they are not going to stay the way you set them! So the following pics give a few suggestions on what to look out for if you're new to this sport. Remember you're not onboard this thing once you let it go from the shore, you need to anticipate what will or might happen once it's sailing without you! Above pic is a lightweight .75oz cloth headsail with a 1.5oz two seam mylar main. Note main is an older cut, the top seam is now a little further down on my new generation mainsails, also I am now going back to a 4 panel main for light conditions, The jibs are also cut fuller on the lower seam now, I consider my .75oz jibs are faster in general than the 1.2oz, but because of their lightweight they require the owner to make more ajustments to get the best out of them in all A rig conditions.
