Now before you tell me I've got it all wrong and that is not a Kiwi boat up top but a Graham Bantock 1999 world championship winning Ikon design, you're right! But take a close look below at my Firebrace designed Eureka and tell me they don't look very similar! What you need to know here is that after Graham Bantock's unsuccessful quest for the world title in Kiwi land in 1997, he took home design ideas of what he considered to be the very best of the down under boats, including a complete Firebrace designed 2Dogs hull, a fore-runner of the Eureka. From what I have been told Graham used the best aspects of the 2Dogs incorporating a few ideas of his own to formulate the Ikon design. Two top designers both obviously moving in the same direction from the same base line boat, is it any wonder that the final products look alike! So is the Ikon a Eureka in disguise, or is it the other way around? |
