There are a lot of good 1metre designs on the market these days, most likely the hardest decision most new skippers will have to make, and a few more experienced ones as well, will be which design shall I choose to buy next? Perhaps getting to know a little more about the designer of the V2 may help in your decision to buy or not to buy. Ian Vickers is a very talented sailor, and one should always note, now that there is a high degree of professionalism and care going into the design of these top 1metre boats, the skippers talent is always going to be the most important factor as to whether the boat has a chance of winning or not! Ian is a very likeable, low key, modest character. Very experienced and successful in dingy racing both in New Zealand and overseas. His win in the New Zealand nationals in 99 in the 1metre was not his first title in this class, it is now his third with a win again in 2001.What amazed me was to learn he won his first title a few years back with his very first design attempt, which must be a very rare and notable feat! The V2 being only his second design in the class. Ian has had a yearn to design boats from his ealiest school boy days and has done a boat building course to back up his obvious natural talents in the design feild, there is no doubt, set up right and sailed right, the V2 or new V5 could take you to a championship win in any country, but like all sports these days, your skills are still the most important factor in the equation |
